Spring Has Sprung!

Spring newsletter.jpg

As we celebrate the official beginning of Spring and we see blossoms slowly showing themselves and the sunshine feeling a little warmer on our skin, there is a touch of excitement in the air. Particularly as this is also coinciding with UK lockdown restrictions slowly lifting and we will be able to start seeing our friends again.

At Easter we will be allowed (fingers crossed) to celebrate in our gardens with another household, but regardless if you are able to be outside or are indoors with your family, the Easter weekend is still an occasion to be celebrated.

We are really excited to be launching our first Tablescape Hampers in time for Easter. With a beautiful blue and white theme, all items have been specially designed for Limonsier to create a bespoke tablescape with beautiful detail and fun elegance; with linens by Linen Lace, porcelain by Gzhel Farfor, and candles by Bable. We will be sending the items out in a special box so that they can all be put away and kept safe for the future. Click here for more details.

There are different was to measure spring, if we are to go by the meteorological season it would be the entirety of March, April and May, but the Astronomical reckoning is connected to the solar patterns with Spring beginning with the vernal equinox (between 19 and 21 March) and ending at the summer solstice (around 21 June). And of course, different countries and cultures mark the end of winter in lots of different ways and times of the year.

What we are most excited about with Spring is the burst of new flowers, the flush of fresh produce and a warming of the air. Miranda York’s book The Food Almanac is a great way to follow the seasons and she captures Spring perfectly:

“The start of spring – stirrings – hope. Fierce bright leaves shoot up towards the strengthen sun, defying the harshest weather”

Spring is a great time to discover foraging, from Wild Garlic to nettles and sea kale, a wonderful way to spend an afternoon walk; although do research first, you don’t want to pick the wrong thing! We recommend John Wright’s The Forager’s Calendar or the Urban Forger Book.

It is also the season to indulge in some of this country’s best produce! March is Rhubarb season, and the weather has enough of a chill to enjoy it in a lovely crumble. April sees the start of asparagus season, peas, fennel, as well as jersey royal new potatoes – all perfect for your Easter Sunday lunch. It is also a time abundant with lettuces for fresh salads, and new herbs like parsley, samphire, sage and rosemary, brining aromatics to your dinner table.

Let us not forget the flowers we can now enjoy – look out for Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinths, Pansies, Irises, Lilacs and enjoy all the fruit trees in blossom! There is a particular palette for Spring of light purples, soft pinks, lemons and delicate whites, all of which work wonderfully together on a table.
