The Art of the Garden

In Spring the hard work of planting and pruning is done for the glory of now - summertime and leisure time amongst the flowers and lush greenery. Sit back, sip a gin & tonic and take those deep breaths in and admire your hard work!

Our own gardens, terraces, balconies or even window boxes are our private havens, but one thing that London has to offer is some wonderful public gardens to visit - to be inspired by, or to simply have a moment of escapism not too far from home.

Before we head into Autumn why not enough the last of the Summer days in some of these gardens.

Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew

Kew Gardens is probably the most famed - and definitely the biggest - of the London gardens. It is in fact a UNESCO World Heritage site, and boasts glasshouses, rock gardens, ponds, walks and a seed preservation project. It absolutely needs a full day to explore! Kyoto Gardens, in Holland Park

Donated to London in 1991 by the city of Kyoto and situated in the heart of Holland Park, this garden offers a truly tranquil space in our capital city. Walk slowly and take time to ponder!

Chelsea Physic Garden

Their website explains the garden as “for the botanically curious” and is what one might call a hidden gem! Chelsea Physic Garden was established by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries in 1673. It is open during the day, but they also host supper clubs and various other events through the year.

Barbican Conservatory

A place for a rainy day, the Barbican is the city’s biggest conservatory after Kew and it’s in right in the middle of the city! It’s a glorious meeting of architecture and plant, a city jungle. Only open some Sundays, so make sure you check dates and book a ticket

Eltham Palace & Gardens

This spot has a long glorious history. It started as a medieval palace and then was a Tudor Royal residence, so make sure you soak up all the historical information as well as stroll around the classically structured English garden.

Truly spectacular food, and a museum that explores and celebrates all things gardening and of course gardens to enjoy!
